In England, 17% of adults report experiencing symptoms of common mental health issues, this figure alone shows that more support mechanisms need to be put in place to provide those who need help and guidance with a safe and comfortable environment to do so.
Auctus Management Group Ltd (AMG), and its subsidiary businesses; RSS Infrastructure Ltd (RSSI) and Infra Skills Ltd, have taken the initiative to enrol various staff members onto a Mental Health First Aider training course, provided by Bernie Graham, a Psychologist and Director of Mental Health Support Training & Consultancy Limited.
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the onset, nature and treatment of mental ill health. As well as providing an enhanced knowledge of the range of support, therapies and self-help strategies available. By the end of the two-day course learners will have also developed first aid skills for supporting people experiencing mental distress prior to professional involvement.
Working in such a safety critical environment, AMG felt it was crucial that staff understand the meaning of Mental Health and wellbeing, as well as having the knowledge and confidence to provide the first means of support to anyone suffering from mental ill health.
Taking part in this Mental Health First Aid training course, is the first step of their journey to implement Well Being Champions within the company. The Well Being Council will regularly meet to discuss and arrange appropriate well-being initiatives for implementation. The Champions will also help to drive the well-being message across the workforce and highlight any concerns.
Mental Health issues can range from every day worries, to life-long conditions. Support systems such as AMG’s ‘Well Being Champions’, are aiding the nationwide campaign to support those experiencing mental health issues.
