BACKGROUND – AN OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT SITUATION
RSS INFRASTRUCTURE Ltd (RSS) conducted construction work for Colas Rail’s Barnetby site office, when RSS were approached the area primarily consisted of grass roads and walk ways, with some office containers not placed on a level surface. The RSS workers were tasked with creating a cleaner and more professional environment for the project staff and workforce, as well as fixing minor problems reported by the current occupants.
SOLUTION – HOW WE IMPROVED SAFE TRACK ACCESS
The RSS workers were tasked with clearing up the Barnetby site office grounds. The project began with excavating the current designated car park area of all imperfections and water pooling issues, after that the ground was levelled and prepared for the next phase; the Type 1 fill process.
It was agreed by RSS and the client that resurfacing of the area would be completed with a Type 1 fill because of its flexibility and cost-effective nature. A small team laid and compressed the area to create an even surface suitable for vehicle and foot traffic, with the completion of the surface, the RSS team then focused their attention on creating a slabbed foundation and perimeter area for the office containers, making accessibility to and from the office safer for the staff and workforce. Once the area had the new foundation work completed, the office containers were then adjusted to make them horizontally level and subsequently safer for all office users.
CONCLUSIONS / RESULTS – WHAT BENEFIT WAS THIS FOR THE CLIENT
The project took a total of 2 days to complete and has been highly praised by the Site Manager who overlooked the project. The area is now more professional and presentable as well as safer for all vehicles and staff on the site.
